According to ESPN hurt his rib while training for his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez.
"I am extremely disappointed that this fight has to be postponed," Mayweather (39-0, 25 KOs) said in a statement. "I was training very hard and looking forward to getting back in the ring."
What a faker LOL.
"I will remain focused, in shape and ready to fight whenever the fight is rescheduled for,"
I bet Floyd just wants more time to come down in weight. I hope he loses.
The very courteous Brian Kenny becomes a victim of Floyd's high opinion of himself. Floyd has such bad manners and in his deluded mind thinks he is still pound for pound the best fighter even though he retired.
Interviewer: "What does the opportunity to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. mean to you?"
JJM: "It’s a great fight and a great opportunity to reach new heights. It’s a great opportunity and a great responsibility to know we are going to fight with such a great fighter. This means we will train very hard like always and move up in weight with power. Ever since the fight was announced I am concentrating very hard on Mayweather."
Interviewer: "How would you define Floyd Mayweather Jr.?"
JJM: "He’s a fighter who is coming back from retirement. He will do whatever it takes to win and so will I. It will be a great fight. He wants to prove he still is the best pound for pound fighter and I want to prove I am."
Interviewer: "How do you feel about the conditions of the fight?"
JJM: "I talked with my promoter Golden Boy and I told them I wanted to fight at 140. Then they told me 145 and I said no 142.5. Finally we agreed at 143 close to 144 pounds. I have always done weight training when I fought at super featherweight in order to gain weight and muscle and I have fought at lightweight. I felt good fighting at lightweight. I don’t think weight will be a problem in this fight I will work hard to move up to 143 maybe 144 pounds and will make sure not to lose any speed."
Interviewer: "Do you view this fight as a last chance opportunity?"
JJM: "Well I've always said its better late than never, and at 35 years of age I'm getting so many good opportunities. I got to fight Casamayor who is a great fighter and I got to fight the young Juan Diaz only 25 years old. I think if you prepare yourself well, are disciplined and you take care of yourself you can come out ahead."
Interviewer: "I imagine you’re motivated to win this fight because whoever wins will fight Pacquiao."
JJM: "Yes that motivates me in this fight but right now I am only concentrating on Mayweather. Right now I have a rival that is more difficult, more powerful that Pacquiao."
ESPN Anchor: "Well there are the words of Juan Manuel Marquez, in his last 5 fights he’s been very active and he doesn't have anything to lose and everything to gain. He is the underdog in this fight."
Marco Antonio Barrera: "Yes, but he has a positive mentality and he has a strong will, he has a huge opportunity in front of him and like he said better late than never. He’s taking things one step at a time I hope we get a big surprise come July 18, he is a great fighter." rprise come July 18, he is a great fighter."
Interviewer: "We are used to seeing you in big fights. Tell us how you made this big fight happen."
Oscar de la Hoya: "We did it by talking with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez, telling them that this could be a huge fight. As a boxer I believe, I am very sure and know that Juan Manuel Marquez is going to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr.. Juan Manuel Marquez is going to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. because Floyd Mayweather Jr. hasn't fought in over a year. Juan Manuel Marquez is a fighter who is not scared to throw punches. He is an incredibly intelligent fighter. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a fighter who does not like to throw a lot of punches."
Interviewer: "You and I know Juan Manuel Marquez well and we know that right now he is on fire. Given your experience fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. what advice would you give to Juan Manuel Marquez?"
Oscar de la Hoya: "I would tell him to be calm and not let Floyd's trash talk get to him. Marquez needs to use his jab. His jab is the key. If he does this he will dominate him. I did that in the first 6-7 and so can Marquez."
Interviewer: "Is the winner of this fight the best pound for pound fighter in your eyes?"
Oscar de la Hoya: "Yes, yes because in my eyes and in the eyes of many experts Marquez beat Pacquiao both times. Mayweather used to be number 1 and now that he’s back we will see if he still is."
